چکیده

The micropaleontological and palynological content, geochemical isotopic composition of a marine sediment core collected off Pointe-des-Monts in eastern Québec, Canada, reveal regional palaeoclimatic paleoceanographic conditions the Lower St. Lawrence Estuary over last ~8200 years. pollen spore content allows comparison with terrestrial palynostratigraphy, whereas dinoflagellate cysts benthic foraminifera are used to reconstruct sea-surface bottom water properties, respectively. dinocyst-based reconstructions indicate shifts between estuarine oceanic important changes temperature, salinity, primary productivity. Both dinocyst assemblages quantitative estimates highlight distinct transition at ca. 4200 cal years BP. It is notably marked by change towards higher which suggests reduced freshwater discharge, hence lower precipitation watershed, during Late-Holocene. (δ 18 O δ 13 C) centennial millennial frequency variability general trend decreasing temperatures increasing ventilation from beginning Middle Holocene until century. Since then, reverse trends abrupt warming dissolved oxygen have been observed.

A multi-proxy stalagmite reconstruction of the climate of southwestern North America from the Middle to Late Holocene

The seasonal balance of moisture has a significant effect on natural ecosystems and culture in southwestern North America (SWNA), and it thus is necessary to understand the cause of this moisture variability in order to better predict the scope of potential future changes. Studies of modern SWNA climate indicate that most of the annual moisture at this site comes from monsoonal summer precipita...

On the Possible Correlation between the Collapse of Sialk IV and Climatological Events during the Middle–Late Holocene

Prehistoric archaeological sites in the center of the Iranian Plateau suddenly disappeared around the end of the 4th millennium BCE. At Tepe Sialk, near Kashan, the last cultural period, namely Sialk IV - probably established around 3400 BCE after the last settlements of Sialk III6-7b - was abandoned approximately after 500 years. The material culture of this period, known as Proto-Elamite peri...

The role of changes in the large-scale atmospheric systems in the evolution of the late Pleistocene and Holocene climate of the Zagros Mountains

1-Introduction   The Zagros Mountains range with a northwest-southeast direction covers a large part of western Iran. This range acts as a barrier against mid-latitude westerly airflows and thereby generates significant orographic rainfalls, resulting in a hospitable environment which has been home to ancient civilizations. Major variations in the westerlies can lead to significant environ...
